Choosing the Right Plumbing Pipe

If you are performing a plumbing repair or installation on your own, you will need to use the right type of plumbing pipe. Most newer houses in the Treasure Coast will have copper, PEX, or cpvc (plastic). There are some older houses in the area the may have galvanized steel pipe or in some rare instances you may find a house that Polybutylene pipes.  Polybutylene pipes were only used for a short time and are known for leaking after a couple of decades, if you have this type of plumbing, you will want to plan to re-pipe the house as soon as possible.

If you have any other type of plumbing, you will be able to find supplies at your local Treasure Coast hardware store. Copper pipes will be easy to identify, galvanized pipe will be grey or silver in appearance, cpvc is an off-white tannish color, and pex will typically be red and blue flexible pipes. Once you have identified the material used for your water lines, then you can estimate the amount of piping and connections needed and visit the hardware supply store for the first time (most likely not the last). If planning or performing your plumbing project becomes overwhelming, you can always call a top Treasure Coast plumber with Treasure Coast Elite to complete the project.
